The CTBC Summer Internship is a comprehensive career-bridging program. Hi, I’m Kent from Malaysia, and I’m an institutional banking intern of 2021. After I graduated, I continued onto CTBC’s MA Program and am currently serving at the Corporate Banking Division for my rotation. I’d like to share my experience with you, so that you can learn more about CTBC. Initially, I interned at the Institutional Banking Credit Analysis Division, handling credit information and topical evaluation reports for the Division. During my internship, I got to know a group of outstanding supervisors and colleagues, and I learned about how the Bank assess risks. You don’t get to acquire such experience in school. Additionally, CTBC encourages interns to ask questions and be creative (reminder: note this down!)
Upon leaving school, I decided to begin my career at CTBC, not only because of the fond and fruitful experience during my internship, more importantly, CTBC has many overseas offices and ample opportunities to be stationed abroad. Since I aspire to work overseas, CTBC offers the best platform for me. CTBC also has comprehensive training and promotion mechanisms, fully supporting the employees.

I joined CTBC summer internship in 2021 and became a member of International Business Group, institutional banking. My main task was to research the developments and opportunities of the overseas markets. I also collaborate with colleagues at overseas branches to formulate development strategies for the overseas markets. I came from an IT background and knew nothing about the banking industry before I joined CTBC, so I encounter many obstacles in the beginning. Thanks to the guidance and support from my supervisors and mentors, I was able to adapt quickly and performed well in projects.
Due to the pandemic, the internship was cut short. I had to participate in the daily operations of the department and independently complete a research report within one month. It was quite a challenge for me, prompting me to learn as fast as I could. During the internship, the supervisors and mentors encouraged me to ask questions and offered much advice for the work at hand and my career. CTBC also offers interns ample learning resources and benefits, including an online library, online courses and physical courses, allowing me to learn about the industry more comprehensively.
Since I interned at the International Business Group, I learned that CTBC has the largest global footprint among banks in Taiwan. In 2022, CTBC launched the new international IRM program. I jumped at the chance and was fortunate to be one of the first foreign member of the program.
The CTBC IRM program aims to cultivate business capabilities. The job rotations allow me to observe the operations of all sorts of businesses, ranging from micro-enterprises in Taiwan to listed international companies. I also learn about business development and how to identify risks.
So far, I have rotated to two business units dealing with SMEs and the credit department responsible for generating risk reports for overseas clients. I have gained so much through industry research, client development, and identifying risks from the bank’s perspective.

I was fortunate to join the CTBC Rising Star summer internship program in 2021. I interned at the Operation Management Department of Institutional Banking OP & IT Division. After the summer vacation ended, I moved on to the school year internship program, interning at the Procedure Planning Department. In the summer of 2022, I joined the Rising Star program again, interned at the International Financial Planning & Analysis Department, and carried on as a school-year intern at the Institutional Banking Information Support Project.
The CTBC summer internship consists of project evaluation, daily tasks of the department, and fulfilling training courses. For example, I was responsible for seeking ways to improve OP's professional competence and services for overseas branches while interning at the Operation Management Department. While at the International Financial Planning & Analysis Department, I conducted financial analyses on CTBC branches in the US and their competitors. Also, I assisted with financial budgeting and monthly and annual reports for branches and subsidiaries overseas. During the school year internships, I primarily assisted with OP project implementation and learned a great deal. Compared to the summer internship, which mainly revolves around project evaluation, the school year internship allowed me to be involved in the department's daily tasks, and I found the experience very fruitful.
